Happy 3rd & 30th!
Today is my little sister’s birthday, and tomorrow is my son’s. For a minute there I thought they might end up having the same birthday. Anywho, I can’t believe how old they are both getting! Especially since I’m not getting old at all. Strange. Hey, wait a minute! Oh well, this photo was taken on a recent outing to the zoo. They are looking up in awe at the strange beauty of the toucan- or maybe they’re amused by the potty-mouthed mynah bird. (Disclaimer: Blame the mynah bird for any bad words you hear my son repeating. Thank you!)

I apologize that I haven’t been creating as many blog posts lately, but I have been having too much fun taking family portraits. Yesterday was my birthday, and I just had to share photos of my cake. It was so pretty and so delicious! It’s called a princess cake, for those of you who don’t recognize it. The inside is a simple yellow cake, with layers of whipped cream and vanilla custard, a ribbon of raspberry puree, and the best part is that it is covered in a layer of soft pink marzipan. It’s subtle and the flavors and textures are varied. Such a treat! My husband got this one from the Paris Bakery Cafe here in downtown Monterey. They have a lot of specialties and this cake has got to be one of them!
